Need a Hand? Specialized hand therapy at RAMC
From Embrace, Summer 2016
Whether it’s jotting down a note or cooking dinner, we use our hands for pretty much everything. So when there’s an issue, treatment needs to be effective and trustworthy. Betsy Harms, Registered Occupational Therapist and Certified Hand Therapist, is here to help you perform daily activities without pain or irritation.
Betsy has been working for Reedsburg Area Medical Center (RAMC) for 20 years. Along with her certification in hand therapy, she is also a Certified Lymphedema Therapist. She treats and evaluates anything related to the hands or upper extremities, including fractures, dislocations, tendonitis, arthritis, joint replacements, and more. Betsy uses innovative techniques and strategies to guide patients to a successful recovery.
Betsy, a native to the Reedsburg area, has known she wanted a career in healthcare since she was in high school. She went to college at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and came back to Reedsburg following graduation.
She recognizes that some people might travel to Madison, Milwaukee, LaCrosse, or even Sauk City for hand surgery, but encourages them to return to Reedsburg for their post-surgery therapy.
“There are many hand surgeons in Madison that want their patients to be treated by a Certified Hand Therapist,” Betsy says. “This is one way to keep the patients in their own community so they don’t have to drive to Madison several days each week for therapy.”
Betsy became a Certified Hand Therapist five years ago in order to provide even more therapy coverage at RAMC. “I wanted to learn more and be able to treat our patients at the highest level as possible,” Betsy says.
Accompanied by experience, knowledge, expertise, today’s technology and committed medical professionals, the therapy team at RAMC delivers high-quality hand and other therapies to suit your needs.
