Balance disorders are a serious health concern impacting a large percentage of the population.  Each year one-third to one-half of the US population over the age of 65 falls, many of them repeatedly. Many falls lead to serious injury. One-half of the older adults that are hospitalized for fall related injuries are discharged to nursing homes.

As a leader in fall risk and balance assessments, RAMC’s physical therapy team offers balance evaluation and training designed especially for individuals with balance and mobility problems.  RAMC is one of only a few facilities in the state to have the Neurocom Balance Master System.  The Balance Master System represents the most advanced system to assess and treat balance and mobility problems. With the use of the Neurocom Balance Master and other tools, the physical therapy team is able to screen for fall risk and design a customized program to meet each individual’s needs.

On Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 the Rehab Department offered free screens to anyone interested. Participants were welcome to receive assessment on the Neurocom Balance System as well as other tests.  Participants were given information on improving their balance as well as home safety tips. No appointment was needed and refreshments were served. If you have any questions on this service, please call the Rehab Dept. at (608) 768-6120.
