Ann Cornwell was a long term employee and integral part of the RAMC team for over 26 years. Seven years ago, Ann was diagnosed with tonsillar cancer. She underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, which was successful in treating her cancer. Approximately a year and a half ago, as a side effect of her cancer treatment, Ann developed dysphagia, which is difficulty swallowing. She underwent testing and therapy, but continued to have this difficulty.
The RAMC Foundation purchased Ann an EMST150 (expiratory muscle strength trainer), which helps strengthen breathing muscles that impact her swallowing. Respiratory muscle strength and coordination are important in assisting in safely swallowing both liquids and solids. Ann receives speech therapy with speech-language pathologist Nicole Bauer to learn how to use this device and improve her overall ability to swallow safely.
The RAMC Foundation would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those that contribute to the healthcare of our community. These contributions are vital in ensuring the Foundation preserves the value and high quality of healthcare in Reedsburg.
