Whenever people ask me where I am from, I describe myself as a “southern Wisconsin guy” as I grew up in Boscobel (the birthplace of the Gideon Bible Society), attended Platteville for my undergrad, worked in Madison as a lab tech, attended and graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCOW) in Milwaukee, and finished my family practice residency in Janesville, before moving to Reedsburg. I have now practiced here in Reedsburg for 15 years and look forward to 15+ more. I continue to practice the entire scope of family medicine, including obstetric care, and enjoy being a family physician, the jack-of-all-trades of the medical specialties.
A bit of wisdom that one of my attending physicians at residency gave me - “As doctors, we are only advisors.” - certainly rings true. We cannot compel people to make healthy choices, but we can give them the best advice possible with the information we have. Each day at work, I attempt to provide patients with the information needed to make informed decisions and hopefully foster in them the motivation needed to work toward healthy goals. To quote the sage musings of one of the most renowned doctors of the 20th century, “You’re in pretty good shape for the shape you are in!” (Dr. Seuss) The real question though is, “What kind of shape are you willing to work towards?”
Outside of the office, my time is mostly spent being a husband and dad to my family (my wife, Katie, and our 6 children - Gehrig, Liana, Logan, Desi, Marley, and Nico), plus anyone else whom God places in our lives and house. Beyond that, I play basketball regularly, and when able, play games (all sorts), read, hike, and sporadically try to be artistic.
