Activities
Socialization as well as mental and physical stimulation becomes even more important as we age. Our director, Mandy Retzlaff, is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Her programming offers a variety of social, intellectual, cultural, intergenerational, and educational group activities based on the individual interests of our participants. Activities are also included that allow opportunities for clients to stay active and engaged in the community.
Within our adult day services, we also prioritize creating a supportive, structured environment that promotes daily engagement and well-being. Our team designs each day to balance stimulating activities with opportunities for rest, conversation, and personal connection. Whether participants are joining a gentle exercise class, enjoying adaptive games, participating in music or art therapy, or sharing stories over coffee, every experience is crafted to enhance quality of life while offering caregivers peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Does my loved one have to be a certain age to attend your day services?
Clients of Reminisce are older adults over the age of 60 years.
What is your policy if my loved one is sick and I have to cancel their day at the last minute?
We respect if someone is sick and needs to stay home. We like to know the symptoms or a diagnosis so we can also assist in giving a timeline for when it is safe for the loved one to return to Reminisce.
How long can my loved one stay at Reminisce during a single day?
Clients are welcome to stay from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Some clients come a little later and leave a little earlier. We work with families and clients to arrange what works best in open hours for their schedules.
If something comes up and I can’t make it to pick my loved one up at the expected time, are there additional fees for being late?
We encourage prompt pick up to prevent anxiety with clients and to be respectful of everyone’s time. Late fees do apply if late pickups become too common. Late fees are $5.00 per five minutes late.
Is it ok to have someone else drop off/pick up my loved one if I communicate that to you ahead of time?
Yes, we just ask to have whoever is authorized to pick up or drop off loved one’s name and phone number on file.
What are your current clients’ favorite activities?
Some favorite activities among most clients would be musical entertainment, guest speakers, bus trips in the community, pet visits, and non-denominational church services (for those interested).
How often do you go out and about in the community?
We go out in the community every week when the weather is good. However, we have community connections with people or groups from the community daily.
Do you have a “relax” or “rest” time during the day?
If a client is tired or needs a break they are always welcome to relax in one of our recliners. However, after lunch many clients choose to relax in the recliners and enjoy some music or a travelogue.
Can a client request/suggest request a favorite activity?
YES! We love to try new things and clients are always welcome to suggest activities as our group is always excited to try new things.
Are meals provided?
Yes, the noon meal is provided as are snacks. The meals are overseen and approved by a dietician. If there is a meal on the menu that a client does not want for that day they are welcome to choose something from the Courtyard Café for that day.
What does a typical day look like for my loved one at Reminisce?
Morning news and views, exercise, game time or reminisce (something for cognitive wellness) followed by lunch. Afternoon relaxation and music to start, usually a bus trip, musical entertainment, guest speaker, or game time. If the weather is nice we spend time on the front porch or in the gazebo outside. We Round out the day with a beverage or snack.
Does Medicare or insurance cover any of the service costs?
Some long-term care insurances cover Adult Day Services. Private pay is the main source of payment by clients. We do have a contract with some Managed Care Organizations such as Inclusa. Lastly, I encourage clients and families to check with ADRC in their county to see if there are grants available for Adult Day Services (very often grants are available).
Does my loved one have to be able to walk on their own or can they use a walker/wheel chair?
Clients can use a walker or a WC to get around. Staff are here to offer supervision and assist as needed.
What is the policy for missed days or changes in attendance?
If clients are going to miss a day for any reason, we recommend trying to see if they can come a different day. Clients are charged for the days they miss. The days clients are scheduled to come are saved for that client and part of saving that spot is paying for the spot whether they are in attendance or not.
Does my loved one have to have Dementia to be able to attend?
While some clients do have memory challenges not all do. Reminisce does not require any certain diagnosis to attend services.
If they have medications at noon, can you give those?
Staff at Reminisce need to give medication reminders but are not able to give the medications to clients. Clients need to be able to take medications on their own with staff reminders.
