Reedsburg Area Medical Center (RAMC) announced that in 2024, employees of RAMC volunteered for 14,437 hours for initiatives directly supporting community health priorities. Staff volunteered to promote and participate in activities aligned with RAMC’s Community Health Needs Assessment.
Among the most significant contributions this past year, RAMC staff volunteered to lead the following initiatives:
- Establishing a Safe Haven Baby Box in Reedsburg
- Hosting a Spanish Resource Fair to better serve Spanish-speaking residents
- Organizing a Teddy Bear Clinic to reduce fear of medical care among young children
- Providing care services at free clinics to expand healthcare access
- Volunteering at and supporting area food pantries to address hunger and food insecurity
In June of 2024, RAMC’s Christine Trautman, MD helped bring the first Safe Haven Baby Box to the State of Wisconsin providing a secure and anonymous option for parents in crisis to safely surrender an infant without fear or judgment.
“It’s hard to put into words what it means to know that a resource like this could save a life,” said Dr. Christine Trautman. “Everyone who contributed, whether through education, fundraising, or installation support, knew we were part of something bigger than ourselves.”
“Our employees don’t just provide care within our walls. They extend that compassion into the community we proudly call home. For a rural health center with only 600 staff, contributing over 14,000 hours is a powerful reflection of our mission in action. I couldn’t be prouder of the heart and commitment our RAMC family demonstrates every day,” said Teresa Field, COO of Reedsburg Area Medical Center.
The 14,437 hours recorded represent only the time dedicated to health-related initiatives through RAMC’s Community Health Needs Assessment efforts — and do not include the many additional volunteer service hours that employees contribute personally.
“Many of our employees give their time outside of their regular workday, and I know that thousands of additional hours are contributed to our community that are not captured in our formal Community Benefit initiative,” said Carey Craker, Marketing and Volunteer Services Associate. “It speaks volumes about the kind of people we have here and the culture of service that is central to RAMC’s identity.”
